A question which comes up ever so often is about available books on photography. It occurs to me that between us, we probably have a set of books in our "collective P2N mind" which could prove very useful to those entering the hobby, or entering specific aspects of the hobby, such as landscapes, portraiture, candids, and whatever.
What book do you think is particularly good at teaching an aspect of photography, or about photography in general? Think about a book that you would recommend without reservation to a serious student of photography, in other words.
Please indicate your REASON for favoring a book you choose to mention.
I will start off with a book I like:
Basic Techniques of Photography by John P. Schaefer - An Ansel Adams Guide
This book explores photography's fundamentals from ground up. It addresses the technical aspects well, while also speaking to conceptual and creative elements such as visualization. While it is written around Ansel Adams' life experiences with film, it is nevertheless very relevant to the modern digital imagemaker who wishes to make images that stand head and shoulders above the average.
