A B&W Digital SLR?

Postby T42 on Sat Feb 06, 2010 7:19 am

Hi Gang.

Think about this: A Ten Mpxl camera has 5 Mpxl green, 2.5 Mpxl blue, and 2.5 Mpxl red. The same size sensor, unfiltered, could have 10 Mpxls white. What does this mean? Could a high resolution, B&W specific digital camera be in the future?

You are welcome, Adi.

Thanks for your response to the post.

I can imagine applications for such cameras where maximum definition is needed, or when the sensor needs to be optimized for some special kind of light, such as infrared, for example. Applications for such a camera might include energy management, forensics, graphics, espionage, security, and some military applications. I can imagine that such a camera with a strong orange filter might have some high contrast capability that would cut through atmospheric haze and render more contrasty monochrome images of distant objects. This is what is done with military class binoculars, for example.

To me, it was fascinating to see how much improved the camera did in its B&W role with the "stuff" removed from the face of the camera's "color" sensor.

Happy day.

:)
